DMF Kids – Frequently Asked Questions

Why should kids take dance fitness classes?

Our Dance Me Fit Kids program is for kids ages 4 years to 11 years old. Children learn fitness dances, play fun motivational games, and learn new international rhythms and styles of music and learn to appreciate different musical rhythms and culture. All classes are taught to not only cultivate individuality and creativity, but to develop leadership, respect, team work, social skills, positive self-esteem, confidence, and responsibility.

The goal is to develop a healthy lifestyle and to incorporate fitness as a natural part of children’s lives, not just as a class they attend once a week.  This is important because exercise helps improve mood, helps kids focus on learning, keeps kids from becoming overweight, and helps develop strong bones and muscles. Register Online Now

How is DMF Kids different than a regular adult class?

Truth is, kids are not just small adults.  Children are still developing and don’t yet understand the benefits of an active lifestyle.  Dance Me Fit Kids classes have been designed specifically for kids, taking into consideration their developing motor skills and shorter attention span.  So unlike an adult class, there are lots of talking to walk them through the steps, and of course the moves and music is kid friendly.  Challenging moves are simplified so that kids can feel a sense of accomplishment, without frustration. Dance fitness games are incorporated to develop skills and to have fun.

What is the class structure?

Classes are generally 45 minutes in length and consists of the following:

  • Group discussion of staying physically and mentally fit
  • Dance fitness warm-up and dynamic stretch
  •  Learn 1-2 dance fitness routines (African, Bollywood, Latin, Hip Hop etc.)
  •  Game/Unification (time to unify the group with some dance fitness exercise)
  •  Cool down and stretch
  • Stickers and/or prize box

Note: Parents are encouraged to stop by only during the last 5-10 minutes of class to view what the children have learned. Students should wear comfortable clothing and bring a water bottle if possible. Click here for class locations/date/times

Are there any performances?

We try to have one performance at the end of each session. One in December is our Family Fitness night and one in April/May at the Kids Expo held at the Del Mar Fair Grounds. We will keep you posted once our date/time/location is confirmed. Performances are optional but participation and attendance is highly encouraged.

What if my child goes to ESS?

If your child goes to ESS they will be required to first check into ESS right after school. Then ESS will either release your child or walk the students over to the Dance Me Fit Kids class. After class the Dance Me Fit Instructor will walk the students back to ESS and the student will check back in to assure every student is accounted for. This is why it is very important that if your child is going to be absent that you notify not only the school and ESS but also send an email to michele@dancemefit.com. Register Online Now

Do you offer any scholarships or financial assistance?

Yes, we do and no financial or income documentation is needed to be approved. Scholarships, financial aid and payment plan arrangements are available upon request. It is our goal to have every child be able to participate and not let finances be a hindrance in any way. Contact us for financial assistance or a scholarship at time of registration or send an email to michele@dancemefit.com

Can my child join after a session has started?

Yes, your child can join a session anytime during the school year, even if classes have already started. We review our routines and dance rhythms each week, so students can catch up very easily.  Your tuition will be prorated for any classes that were missed automatically.
